week 10
This is the beginning of week 10 and I must say, I am not yet 100% but I am starting to feel better. Either that or I am just getting better in tune with my body. I normal can go hours without eating, but now I realize if I don't pop something in my mouth every 2 hours, I start to feel queasy and then eventually get sick. Two days in a row with NO morning sickness, however yesterday we were on our way out for dinner and I popped a Flinstones in my mouth on an empty stomach - bad idea! I ended up getting sick before we went to the restaurant (which we ended up leaving b/c it was too hot) and went to one of my favorites near the summer house, Wood Fire. I am eating more, but still don't have the desire to cook. I am home now, after a long weekend in MI with my mom and we ate out for all meals so everything went down fine. Now I am home and Cor is coming home from his big camping trip and I thought I'd be up for making him a nice dinner, but I am thinking I won't be. At least I am starting to feel better, but am getting tired easily.

Now my sickness is truly turning into 'morning sickness'. I get sick in the morning then the rest of the day I don't. But, I still don't want to eat and feel nauseous if I don't eat. Today I craved potato wedges with sour cream....and chicken salad from Dunning Market....and chicken noodle soup (yes it's about85 degrees today). I am caving in, maybe the baby is telling me something. A few more weeks until our next ob appointment. My belly is currently measuring 7 3/4 toilet paper squares, up from 7! Slowly it's growing.....

still feeling blah
Week 9 has arrived and the sicky feelings aren't going away. Friday we drove to Columbus to visit my SIL and new baby nephew. I was fine until late Saturday afternoon, starting feeling queasy. We had bought a whole bunch of food from Whole Foods and I could barely eat any of it. So later at the hotel, my stomach was so upset because it was still hungry yet I couldn't eat. I ate a pop tart and the drive home on Sunday was terrible. I felt like crap the rest of the day, tossed up all my dinner and just had the worst headache ever. Finally I went to bed and woke up today feeling a bit better. I still have no appetite. We are going to the White Sox game and I will see if anything looks appetizing to me there.

beef sandwich
Don't you love how all I am talking about is food in regards to my pregnancy! HA! So today I went to visit my aunt, cousins and grandpa for lunch. We all had beef sandwiches with fries....yum! It went down with no problem at all. I still can't cook. I made bland ole spaghetti tonight with marinara sauce and salad for dinner - BLAH! Corey went out last night and bought me a peanut butter shake...that so hit the spot.
I might just have to get one tonight too..
I am torn too...my aunt has a crib/dresser/changing table set to hand me down. It's in great condition, the mattress is new and it's light, good quality wood. I don't know if I should take it OR buy a new set. What should I do? I wouldn't have necessarily have picked it out but it's not bad. I am still trying to figure out how I want to decorate the nursery. First thing I need to get done is have our hardwood floors re-sanded - they are in shabby shape. I will get a big area rug once the floors are finished. Lots to plan.....

chinese food
I am not a huge fan of it....actually it grosses me out. But yesterday for dinner, I had this huge craving for chicken fried rice and won ton coup. I just had to have it and since I have been suffering from a major lack of appetite, decided to indulge in this. Corey was great and went out and got me my cravings and I ate slowly all night long. I find that I can't eat a lot at one sitting but rather small portions, often. I still get a nasty after taste in my mouth no matter what I eat and I think that is exactly what causes me to want to gag! It's a vicious cycle....hopefully in a few more weeks I will be feeling better.

grilled cheese
It's 11:00 am and I feel like poop. All morning I just laid in bed and had an early morning bout of the dry heaves. I know pretty gross. But I just forced myself to eat a grilled cheese sandwich and I am already starting to feel better.
So my entire family knows about the baby :) I just have to call my grandpa and tell him, which I might do right now. We are going to visit Kelly and family this weekend and that is when we will break the news on the Caporale side :) I am excited for them to know and excited the Christopher James will have a cousin soon!
My mom bought me a pregnancy journal so I started to fill that in. i felt pretty good all weekend, Sunday I was very sleepy and Corey did a lot of work outside since I was resting. He is really helping out so much.

aunt marilyn
My aunt Marilyn is always a good source of medical advice. She told me to go to the local Advocate hospital, of course after a tour and talking to staff there. She made me feel better about sticking with my current OB and trying the hospital that is only 10 minutes away out, at least for a tour. They are a level II, which is good for a community hospital. If I were high risk, then it would be more important for me to go to UC, which is a level III, meaning they have the ability to deal with problems that arise in risky pregnancies. So I will take a tour and report back. There is a new maternity wing with private birthing suites. Aunt Marilyn also has tons of stuff that she has been saving up for me, like a whole bedroom set. I will have to check it out.
heartbeat

Yesterday was my first prenatal appointment. The ob was able to find the baby and we saw the heartbeat. Everything looked good. Now I just don't know what to do because the hospital in which she would deliver me in, is just your average hospital. I am thinking about going to see an OB at the University of Chicago and have the baby there. I like my OB but I just don't know if I want to deliver in a generic hospital. I think we are going to take a tour of the hospital and then go from there. So much to think about.

tossing cookies
My nausea has gotten worse, lasting most of the day and really hitting in the middle of the night. I have no appetite so it's hard to force something down. This morning I woke up and tossed my cookies in the bathroom. It wasn't fun but I did feel better. I made Cor get me some granola to snack on and that helped. Then later this morning, I asked him to make me an english muffin so I wouldn't have an empty stomach....a few seconds later up came that too! UGH I am feeling a tad better right now, drinking some organic tomato juice. It's like being really hungover or being seasick, constantly. But I know it will all be worth it when our baby comes.
Happy fourth of July....don't think we'll do much because of how I'm feeling....if I do feel better we might join our friends for a minor league baseball game and fireworks tonight.

so much to know
We went to the library last night. I took out the 'what to eat' book from the 'what to expect when you are expecting' series. There is so much to know about what to eat and what not to eat! I think I am doing pretty good so far, especially since I have no appetite so I can force myself to eat just about anything. There is a neat page that shows you all the stuff to fill your cupboards and fridge with...I think I am going to inventory our supplies today and then head to the grocery to stock up on stuff that is good. I am proud to say I have most of those things just need a few more (like dry milk and whole wheat bagels). I did make myself eat a handful of granola as soon as I woke up this morning and that seems to have helped the morning sickness go away faster. The wonders of reading and educating yourself on things that women knew years ago.

feeling pg
My first signs were, obviously the missed AF, and my boobs were swollen and tender. Like I mentioned previously, I had a subtle nausea....not the typical 'morning sickness' but rather is seemed to strike in the afternoon.
This Saturday the true m/s has kicked in. I haven't thrown up but when I first wake up, my nausea is there, lurking. I have no appetite, everything just turns my stomach and I have lost a sense of taste. I basically have to force myself to eat because I have no desire to eat. I don't know my official week I am in, but from my calculations, I am in week six. I have been reading that this is the time that nausea is more pronounced. So we shall see....I am toasting waffles to eat this morning, they were the only thing that didn't make my stomach do flip flops.
I miss my taste buds....I love to cook and it hasn't been fun lately.

you're pregnant!
And so it begins... I stopped taking my birth control pill back in April. Being a teacher, I wanted to plan out just right when we could have a baby, so I could have maternity leave AND summer vacation off. So I got a bit anxious and stopped in April. I have always been irregular but like clockwork, in May I got AF on time. Then comes June....waiting and waiting and no AF. I am feeling normal PMS symptoms, a tad more emotional and a very very subtle nausea. Cor is convinced that I am pg...I am doubtful part of me feels that AF will arrive, late as usual. Part of me is wondering why I am feeling queasy. So last Saturday, June 23, we went to our local Walgreens, and after mulling over which test was best, bought a home pregnancy test. I had to hurry because some friends were coming to take me to some estate sales. So I take the test, leave while Corey is counting aloud the 2 minutes we have to wait...we creepy back up to the bathroom and he says "You're pregnant!" Both of us shocked, happy, nervous.....and so our journey begins. I hated that I had to leave a few seconds later to go out with said friends, but I couldn't help but grin to myself in the car as we drove off....
later that night Corey and I went to Fresh Starts to celebrate and then to Borders to buy our first 'expectant father/mother' books...
I am learning these first few weeks are scary and a lot can happen. I am already very aware of every little pain, cramp, craving, weird feeling I am having....it's amazing that this little tiny baby, with a HEARTBEAT, is living within me.
First doctor's appointment is July 10th...so much to think about and prepare for....but I want to savor each moment because I know it will go by so fast.
