lemons!

Mia loves to suck on lemons - look at her face! It's like she hates the taste but can't resist sucking on it. She also tried peanut butter for the first time today. Mom lightly spread some on toast, she ate one piece but didn't care for the rest. No reaction so we will try it again (get so bored of the same old for breakfast, lunch and dinner). She also started to walk backwards and sideways backwards this weekend, it's so funny to watch her, looks like she is doing the moonwalk! She had a great time at the library on Saturday chasing around a little friend she made (yes, she is running). We had a snow storm today (where is spring?) but managed to sneak out for breakfast at Blueberry hill then to do some shopping. One day it will be nice outside again...I hope!

first public 'scene'

The reason I blog is so that I can look back at all the little things of Mia's life as she grows - good AND bad. Although the word 'bad' isn't accurate, it's more of the maybe unpleasant things being a parent, yet lovable moments still.

So Mia and I were in Target on Monday afternoon shopping along happily. Mia sat quietly in the shopping cart, no problems. Half way through, she really wanted to 'get out' and walk around the store. So I let her. Things were fine...until we had to go to the check out. OH boy, was she not liking that. I had to hold her while we waited in line (mind you I always manage to get behind some lady that decides to questions the price on each of her 100 items she is purchasing -for the right price). Anyhow, Mia just wanted DOWN...she let out a few outbursts while I waited in line and tried to hold her and I suddenly realized that I was the mom that everyone looks at with the "can't you keep your child quiet" glare. Finally when the cashier was ready for us, Mia got distracted smiling at the girl and soon we were all checked out and on our way to the truck. It wasn't that bad but I just wanted to record this first public moment since I know there will be plenty of them in the future. Again, not a 'bad' mommy moment, just a little more unpleasant than the rest and certainly still lovable when you realize your daughter is just very strong willed, spunky and full of life!

hug

Mia has learned how to hug and I love it! I will kneel and stretch out my arms and say "Mia give mommy a hug" and she will run into my arms and stretch out her arms and hug me! It is so cute! Now we have to get her to do it to dada.

13 months

So time is really going by fast...it's already been a month since we celebrated Mia's first birthday! Not too much to report. This weekend Mia and I had a girls weekend in the city with grammy. First grammy spent the night on Friday so that her and mom could go to a party...then we all drove to Chicago for a sleepover. We took Mia to Glenn's diner for lunch then shopping at some of our favorite local boutiques. We took a long walk to Wells park and to visit Aunt Pam... then home for pizza (Mia's first time eating it and she loved it, of course). Mommy and grammy stayed up late going through old letters and photos which was lots of fun.

Sunday we came home early. Dad took Mia for a long walk over to Irwin Park and they played a bit. We had an early dinner and Mia went to bed early since she didn't sleep as much last night as normal. We are glad the weather has been nice as we welcome spring!

turn around

Good news - the stomach bug is finally gone! It took a good week to recover but everyone is healthy, knock on wood. Some highlights of Ms. Mia this week:
* We officially turned her car seat around to forward facing. She is just about 20 lbs but she was getting so squished! She loves it, and keeps smiling at us while we drive and sit up front!
* Mia is now pointing to things that she wants or points to something she is telling us about. She is really starting to communicate her needs and wants with us.
* Her appetite has been slowly coming back. Her favorite thing is to carry around a little cup of cheerios and then demand for more when the cup is empty. It's really cute.
* She is starting to hand us things. If we are in the kitchen and I say "Mia go give this (cup) to daddy" she will walk to him and hand it to him. Or if she finds something small on the ground, she will pick it up and give it to me and say "ah!" like look mommy I know I shouldn't have this, here!

We were outside a lot this weekend enjoying some of the warmer weather. Photos of Daddy tickling Mia at dinner, us at the park, Mia in her car seat and knocking over towers with Dad

The BUG

Our family has been attacked by the vicious bug - stomach bug that is. Mia was sick all weekend and then daddy got sick too! It was a rough weekend but thankfully everyone seems to be getting better daily. Mia would only drink unflavored Pedialyte (she didn't like gaterode, nor pedialyte pops and she didn't even want to look at her milk). It was scary for a while because she would get so tired and it's so not like her to want me to hold her. But she finally started eating again by Sunday afternoon and on Monday she went back to Diane's. She wanted her milk instead of Pedialyte so I know that is a good sign. I think we played 1,2,3,4 by Feist at least 100 times on you tube for her - she LOVES that segment that Feist was on Sesame Street and will cry for more!

With that being said, thanks to daylight savings, Mia seems to be switching her bedtime to 7pm and waking up at 7am. I LOVE this and hope she continues to keep on this schedule. It makes it nicer to sleep in a bit in the mornings and nice to have her up when dad gets home so we can both get her ready for bed. She loves to take off daddy's glasses and clap her hands when we ask her.

sicky sick

Mia has her first stomach bug. Last night around 9pm, we heard her stirring in her room. I usually wait a few minutes before I go in as to not disturb her sleeping. Well, as I entered, the odor hit and I knew something wasn't right. She had gotten sick all over her crib, herself, everywhere! Poor peanut! We cleaned her up right away and she proceeded to get sick until about midnight. She was funny though, in between bouts of the dry heaves, she was walking all over her room, pulling out books and laughing. Finally around 11ish I was able to get her to fall asleep. Dad and mom slept on her floor to comfort her throughout the night. Mom stayed home with Mia today to make sure she is OK. We called the doctor last night and they told us what to do. It's scary when you experience this for the first time! So far today Mia has kept down pedilyte and toast. Grammy is coming out to help out this afternoon. I hope Mia is over this stomach bug. She has been up since 5am and I am hoping to get her to take a good afternoon nap!
