Phoenix - spring break trip

On Sunday we headed out west to Phoenix, AZ for spring break. We stayed with Aunt Christie and Uncle Chris. The girls had a blast!

Sunday - took a late flight out. Girls did great on the plane. I packed their totes with new coloring books and snacks. We got to the house late and with the two hour time change it was even later. But we finally got to bed and everyone slept ok.

Monday - we got up early - everyone took a walk on the canal trail while i did a short run then we headed north to Moon Valley Park to meet up with one of mommy's college friends and her two kiddos - Jonah and Grace. We had a picnic and had a great time playing. We had to pick aunt Christie up from work at 3 in Scottsdale then went for an ice cream treat at the Sugar Bowl. Since the girls were wiped out we had an early dinner at home then off to bed they went. We stayed up to watch mad men

Tuesday - we walked up La Grande (local coffee, restaurant and gelato shop)for breakfast then we took a trip to the Phoenix zoo which was great. The girls fed giraffes and rode the carousel, saw and heard a tiger roaring, elephants, baboons, camels, komodo dragons. All sorts of desert animals. Afterwards after Christie came home we walked to the park then all went out for a Mexican dinner. Then they had a birthday cake for the girls that uncle Chris made back at home.

Wednesday we got up early - Christie took the girls to the park, I went on a run along the canal again and the guys hiked camelback mountain. Then we went to see the cubs vs indians spring training game - I got Jody Davis' autograph. We went out for pizza at a neat place called Oreganos after and had a nice evening at home.

Thursday aunt Christie took another day off and we first went to the train park in Scottsdale - we rode a train, carousel and the girls had a great time playing on the train playground. After some snacks we took a drive up north to an old cowboy town called Cave Creek. We had lunch at a neat restaurant that has a pond and ducks and turtles in the middle of it. We drove home and uncle Chris made us a yummy salmon dinner. We walked to get gelato then headed to bed early to catch our morning flight.
We had a great time. Thank you aunt Christie and uncle Chris for being great hosts!!

Parent conference - Mia

Mia's second parent conference was this morning. Her teachers just had so many great things to say about her: she's very social, adorable, very generous and genuine, so caring, she plays in a very balanced nature and tries new things...they also said the kids all love her and fight over who will be her special friend. Mrs Wexler said that sometimes her and Ben hold hands on the playground and they could be in a magazine they are both so cute.

She really is doing so great at school and I'm so happy we went with this school where it's all play based. I have done so much academically with her at home it's a perfect change up for her. Most importantly she loves school and I'm happy her first school experience has been so positive - it will make her a life long lover of learning! Academically she is amazing and will do so great in kindergarten. So proud of her :)
She got her haircut today with Angela (who cuts my hair)- 3 inches off but still long! Have to keep it long to make her ballet bun for the upcoming recital.

We had a nice girls weekend. Grandma spent the night Friday night since daddy was in new York. We had fun. Grandma watched the girls while I did my 12 miler then we took the girls to swim lessons. Mia even pointed out how it was a girls weekend bc no boys were home except the doggies.

Mia's teacher was telling me today what a great personality she has and how all the kids love her. As I went out to the playground today I heard the kids all shouting "Mia Mia" as she was leading them in play. She has been starting to read emergent readers to me. She has been working on writing sentences and learning new sight words. Fun fun!!

Where did winter go?

It's been 80 for the past two days - where is winter! Trust me it's been wonderful to open the windows, get outside for fresh air and not deal with coats. But are we in for a long hot summer? I love spring and the first cool days. Ok I'll admit it, I'm selfish and thinking about running in hot, humid weather. I was hoping for some nice cool spring runs.

Anyhow the girls have been enjoying doing bubbles, sidewalk chalk, hoola hoops and etc outside

Spring

It sure feels like spring. We enjoyed some time at the park this week with this great weather!

Mia rode her big girl bike with daddy's help. She is tall enough now to reach the pedals. She is getting good with her scooter too.

Annie has been obsessed with putting on her own clothes and trying on all of Mia's pj's. Last night during movie night she switched pj's about three times. Silly girl.

Field trip

Wednesday was Mia's field trip to the local emergency room with her preschool class. It was cute, the kids got to listen to hearts and look into ears, see X-rays and guess body parts, the dr. Gave them hats and masks to wear. We took Mia's BFF Sophie with since her parents work. It was fun.

Stuff

Nothing much to report. The girls started swimming class on Saturday. We took Mia ice skating on Sunday and her glides are getting much better and longer!

Yesterday we had the day off for Pulaski Day so I took the kids to the Science and Industry museum - they loved it! We saw a chemistry show which was really neat. Mia loved the tornado exhibit where we saw a live vortex. We rode a huge simulated tractor and plowed corn fields They loved the trains and model railroads We spent almost 4 hours there and still didn't see everything so we will go back with daddy.

Friday for Dr Seuss day we made hats and read some Dr Seuss books and watched the PBS Cat in the Hat show. Daddy took Mia to a Dr Seuss event at the library Saturday afternoon.
