Learning

On the way to school today Annie pointed out maple trees then proceeded to point out oak trees on the way home. She also told us about "crops" and "meat is from chickens" and how to say wait in Spanish. It's neat to see her express what she's learning and even more so that she tells it on her own terms (she does not like being asked questions but rather given space to talk when she's ready). Love the independence!

Mia and I had a great field trip day at the pumpkin farm. Farmer Paul taught the kids lots of neat things and we enjoyed the perfect weather!

GOAL!!!! and some fall fun!

Mia did AWESOME at the soccer game this Saturday. She scored her first goal followed by her second and almost third and fourth and did an amazing job on defense - she really was on fire and played her hardest! Annie had fun at ballet too.
We headed to the summer house this weekend with mommy's best friends from high school and our little friend Miguel, grandma joined us too. Our great plans to do some apple picking and pumpking scouting were dampened by lots of rain but we managed to have a great time hanging out. The skies finally cleared late afternoon on Sunday so we headed to St. Joe's for lunch and stopped at a pumpkin farm for a little bit. It was a nice weekend catching up and letting the kiddos play.

Thursday was Kindergarten Night at school. I went as a teacher and Dad went as a parent. It was great!
Saturday Mia had Soccer pictures and a 9am soccer game. I took Annie to her ballet/tap class that she just LOVES. Mia's team won and she had three goal attempts and really hustled this week. Good job! Then it was our town's Fall Fest so we headed over there for lunch, pony rides, music, seeing some friends and a magic show. We headed back later in the evening to hear some more music and too see the outdoor movie of "Hotel Transalvania" which was good...we left before it was over since Annie was cold and both girls were tired! Sunday we participated in the annual 5K and kids dash to support our local Homewood school district. I placed 2nd overall female (was in the lead the entire race until a girl came out of nowhere just before the finish line and beat me by a fraction of a second). The girls both did great in the 153 yard dash. Mia's friend Sophie came over for the day for the girls to play and we enjoyed lots of play time outside in this nice weather.

fall is in the air!

Hard to believe last Monday it was near 100 degrees out and now we are trying to stay warm! We had a great weekend. Saturday after my long run, I took Annie to her first ballet class. A bunch of my running friends kids are doing it too so Annie has built in friends - she LOVED the class and was in her ballet outfit first thing Saturday morning. We then went to Mia's first soccer game. The weather was just perfect out - Soccer Stars did lose, we hope they pick up the pace a bit and get a little more fired up!
We headed out to Michigan City for some serious fall shopping. The girls made out like bandits at Hanna Anderssen and Carters (for pj's)...mommy did some damage at Gap and The Loft...then we had dinner at Shoreline Brewery. We came home for a late movie night, the vintage "Care Bear the Movie"....which took me back to my youth.
Sunday dad had to go into the office so the girls and I went to church, did our Trader Joe's run for the week, walked the doggies and went to the library since it was a rainy afternoon. Excited for the fall and cool temps!

mommy's birthday

So it was my birthday weekend and 3rd time running the Chicago Half marathon. Friday the girls went to Grandma's for the weekend. Saturday dad and I went downtown. First mom met her running friends at the expo to get our race packets and go out for a drink, then dad and mom went to see the play "Book of Mormon" which was really funny. We met our friend Travis who acts in it and he took us backstage which was reallly neat....we couldn't take pictures. We then went out to dinner with him and his wife to a neat Vegan restaurant called Karyn's Cooked and had a delicious meal! Sunday morning mom ran her race with her running friends - she did ok, not faster than last year but knees weren't hurting so hopefully mom is recovering from her earlier in the year injury. Then we  picked the girls up from grandma's which was the best part of the day! We came home and dad and the girls made mom a cake and mom made eggplant parm for dinner, her favorite! Mom went to Lill studio on Friday and picked out a tote and two purses for her birthday. Mia played "happy birthday" on the piano and it was a nice relaxing Sunday celebrating mom's birthday and the best part was just being together!

Labor Day weekend

First week if school went pretty good. We are settling into a routine. It's very busy but not too bad. This week Mia will be starting soccer and choir plus piano on Mondays.

We has fun at the summer house this weekend! Papa came for the night, uncle Gilbert took the girls for a ride in his mini jeep, we swam in round lake, dad and I took the girls to st joes to play on the beach and get pizzas, we has a BBQ, played in the pool and enjoyed a couple rides on the pontoon. Papo docked us at Driftwood so that we could meet up with Chloe( Mia's friend from home who has a summer place too) for one last ice cream of the summer. Great weather and lots of fun! Dad took mom on a date last night to livery brewery in Benton harbor. Very cool and great beer. Nice time out.
